Google’s ranking takes into account bold text snippets

John Mueller confirmed during a recent video meeting for webmasters that bolded text does affect rankings. Google is trying to recognize meaning, including headlines on the page and what is emphasized in the text.

Of course, we're talking about highlighting important points in a paragraph. Text highlighted in its entirety will not be taken into account by Google.

Later, the expert wrote on Twitter that highlighting information on the page helps:

  • title tags,
  • headings,
  • <strong> and <b> tags,
  • tabular data,
  • lists, etc.

Mueller noted that little has changed since the video created by Matt Cutts in 2013.
