The Google team announced that in Google Analytics 4 you can now adjust the session timeout. Site owners will be able to do this themselves after the user pauses interaction with the site.

Configure how long it takes a session to timeout after a user stops interacting with the website, and how long a user has to engage with site content before a session is engaged.

An important aspect: in order for the session to be counted as engaged, you can specify the duration of the user's interaction with the site's content.
