Error 500 can cause pages to be dropped from the Google index

The webmaster asked a Google employee, John Mueller, how the 500 error notifications in Search Console in response to a Googlebot crawl could affect the site's visibility in search.

Mueller replied that if Googlebot encounters a server response code of 500, it tries to hit the pages over and over again. If the error is still repeated, then Google will slow down crawling. If, after a while, the 500 error persists, the search engine removes the URLs with errors from the index.

In addition, it became known that Googlebot itself causes server overload. Because of this, in particular, it slows down scanning. Nevertheless, the search engine does not have hard values at which Google decides that many queries have been made, many errors have been received, therefore, it is time to slow down crawling.
