Google's new page title generation system has some statistics. It was released by a Semrush employee. According to these stats:
- since July, the number of search results displayed with the HTML title tag has decreased by an average of 77%;
- in 75% of cases, Google uses the h1 tag instead of the title tag when rewriting the title;
- HTML title tags are still used for 80% of searches.
Not all rewrites are "dramatic," according to the specialist. Some simply omit the brand name, and many h1 title tags are the same as title tags.
As for the use of title tags, only 44% of titles in the SERPs match those tags, which is almost half as many as the 80% claimed by Google.
