YouTube has enabled Russian state media holding RT and other Russian channels to monetize - that is, to receive money for the ads that are broadcast during the viewing of videos.
Advertising is largely controlled by YouTube itself. Referring to the "extraordinary circumstances", its employees stated that the video hosting "stops the possibility of monetization of low channels on YouTube, including several Russian channels associated with the recent sanctions".
Videos produced by these channels are also rarely included in the recommendations. This was announced by YouTube representative Farshad Shadlu.
