Meta, formerly Facebook, said it is considering shutting down its Facebook and Instagram social networks in Europe if it cannot continue to store user data on servers in the United States. Thus, this could affect Ukraine as well.

In its annual report, Meta emphasizes that "If we are unable to transfer data between the countries and regions in which we operate, or if we are prohibited from sharing data between our products and services, it could affect our ability to provide our services."

The likelihood of that happening is pretty low, after all, the market is quite lucrative. But in this way, the problem between the social network and European lawmakers about the ownership of user data is clearer.

The European Commission said talks with the company have intensified, but they "take time, given the complexity of the issues at stake and the need to balance privacy with national security," according to a spokesperson.
