During a video meeting for webmasters, John Mueller said that asking Google to index new URLs through a URL checker tool isn't a bad thing at all. But it's better to let Google discover those addresses through external links.
Asked if he recommends submitting new URLs as they are published for indexing through the URL checker tool, Mueller said external links are the best way to get Google to index the content.
He added, however, that if the blog is new and there's no information about it on external sites, it's worth asking for indexing yourself. Muller also noted that you can't guarantee whether Google will eventually index the new addresses or not.
