Prefetching has been introduced in search, which is the selection of preliminary search results if there is a high probability that the query suggested in the omnibox will be selected. Thus, results are retrieved from the web server before users even select a query.
This change has shown that search results are now 4 times more likely to be displayed within 500 milliseconds.
However, it is worth noting: prefetching only works if Google was selected as the default search engine.
