Demand for information about the tragic events taking place in Ukraine has prompted Google to update its search terms for relevant queries (f.e., [Ukraine Russia<\/a>]). While some of the new features may be specific, the company may use these or similar features for additional queries, which could affect organic visibility opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google’s search for “Russia invading Ukraine in 2022\u201d<\/strong>. One obvious difference between other versions of Google’s search results and results for queries related to the war in Ukraine is the title that appears at the top: “Russian Invasion of Ukraine 2022.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, the title didn’t always appear, even for the same query when entering the browser, compared to private browsing mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other search features<\/strong> with differences include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Approximate Casualty Section \u2013 The new section gives details on the number of deaths, non-fatal injuries, displaced civilians and destroyed buildings. Google gets the data from Reuters.<\/li>
  2. Photo Carousel \u2013 Different from the image carousel, it usually appears in the main column of search results. It is not the result of an image search. These photos are licensed by Getty Images and users can only scroll through them, not click on them.<\/li>
  3. For the context section \u2013 this feature appears in the main search results column and contains articles with background information on the topic. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The mobile version of Google search results for relevant queries is more like the standard mobile version with some notable borrowings from the PC-specific search results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It can also show the headline, possible losses, a section for context, and a carousel of photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
